It is Black History Month but do we get taught everything in schools? Are things better reserved for personal judgment rather than public knowledge? How much do we really know about the key issues on hand? In this ear-opening episode, Rajan travels to South Africa to revisit the subject of apartheid and the subsequent dramatic impact it had on people of Indian origin. He meets with the remarkable Omar Essack to learn more about his personal journey from growing up in apartheid with limiting career possibilities, to rising and running one of the country’s leading media companies, as they delve into the horrors of the past and the shifting sands of the present and how identity is still perceived in the country. Omar Essack is a leading entrepreneur in the region, whose own career paved the way for social change post-aparthide. He is both celebrated and revered for his stance during the the trying times of ethnic division and is well known for his radio station.
