Welcome to the Official Unofficial COP26
The fate of the world is in our hands they say, but from a meeting that started all the way back in Berlin in 1995 on climate change, some could argue that it is now an Oscars-like event with the world’s politicians gathering to decide the fate of civilization as we know it. Unfortunately, if we judge the events on results and not speeches, another story starts to emerge; a dribbly drab of thick tar like smoke and well-worn rusted mirrors!
At the Global Indian Series, we like to do things differently, and have taken on board all the questions we received on climate change and hosted our very own Official Unofficial COP26 and invited together great minds to tackle tough questions.
In this episode I am joined by friends of the Global Indian H.E President Donald Ramotar (Guyana), H.E Prime Minister Sir James Mitchell (St Vincent and the Grenadines), H.E Senator Rochas Ochorocha (Nigeria), Dr Vijay Patel OBE Chairman and CEO of Waymade PLC (UK) and Vimal Shah Chairman of Bidco Africa (Kenya) to have a round table discussion on the fate of the planet, whether the COP events are a load of hot air and what really needs to be done to make a change. We also look at the key issues that have impacted small state economies and if we need to reconsider how we look at global partnerships.
Since recording - regrettably we have to announce the passing of Sir James Mitchell - PM of St Vincent and the Grenadines, he passed away on November 23rd 2021, this podcast was the last known recorded interview with him. He was a supporter of the Global Indian Series Platform and a social activist who believed in a united West Indies.
About the Global Indian Series:
My name is Rajan Nazran Chief Explorer for the Global Indian Series, the official platform for people of Indian origin (PIO), because let’s face it, we are everywhere!
For almost 15 years we have travelled across the globe covering 58 countries to date whilst exploring the kaleidoscope of our remarkable 50 shades of brown community.
Voyaging to the edges of the Amazon, facing Ebola in West Africa, being held hostage in Eastern Europe, tapping rubber in Malaysia, drinking chai with Heads of State and sharing laughter with local fishermen – I have been there, looking for us!
Our purpose is simple, to build a living encyclopaedia of the human experience of the community and a safe mooring ground for open discussions, whether you are an NRI, Indian Diaspora, person of Indian origin (PIO) or a fan of South Asian anthropology, what we do is bring people and communities together.
We do this by plunging into the human experience of being a person of Indian origin (PIO), taking a second look at the countries we now call home and tackling the conversations we need to know more about.
Through our range of award-winning original content (print, podcasts, events and TV) and fascinating discussions, our impactful stories and platforms have spearheaded national and international conversations that have brought people together. Our work is featured in global brands including The Indian Express through to the CNBC network.
