Global Indian Diaspora praised at PBD Convention — The 17th Pravasi Bhartiya Divas Convention concludes in Indore on Tuesday in the presence of President Droupadi Murmu.
On the third and final day of the 17th Pravasi Bhartiya Divas Convention, President Droupadi Murmu addressed the valedictory session and conferred the Pravasi Bhartiya Samman Awards 2023.
Hailing the diaspora for their extraordinary dedication and hard work in gaining excellence in all walks of life, President Droupadi Murmu said, the Indian Diaspora has become an important and unique force in the global system.
“It has grown into an energetic and confident community in every region, and is making stellar contributions to world affairs in leadership positions,” President Droupadi added.
On the line of the Convention’s theme this year, “Diaspora: Reliable Partners for India’s Progress in Amrit Kaal”, in her address, President Murmu noted India sees the diaspora as a significant partner in achieving the nation’s developmental goals.
The President said, the Diaspora can be the potent force in nation’s inclusive development.
“Diaspora with their energy, experience, ideas, business acumen, investments, technical expertise and knowledge sharing, to enhance our capacities to fulfill the vision of an Atmanirbhar Bharat,” President added.
Further, in her address, President Murmu also highlighted the government’s initiatives for engaging the Indian Diaspora around the world. President during her address also throws light on massive evacuation exercises carried out India to repatriate its nationals from crisis situations, including most recently in Operation Ganga, in Ukraine.
“In recent years, the Government has undertaken several initiatives for the benefit of our Diaspora. These are not only aimed towards welfare of those residing abroad, but also towards enabling you all to engage in the task of nation-building,” she said.
President confers Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award
During the address, President Droupadi Murmu also conferred the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award.
The Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award is the highest honour to be bestowed on an overseas Indian for their outstanding achievements in India and abroad. 27 Indians living overseas, from varied streams, have been bestowed with the honour. The President of Guyana has also been conferred with the award for his stellar contribution to Politics/Community Welfare. Notably, the Guyanese President has also presided over the 17th PBD Convention as the Chief Guest.
President hold meetings with Presidents of Guyana and Suriname
On the sidelines of the Convention, President Droupadi Mumu also held a meeting with the President of Guyana, Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali and the President of Suriname, Chandrikapersad Santokhi, in Indore today.
Elaborating on the details of President Murmu’s meeting with her Guyanese counterpart, the President’s office said, a wide ranging discussion about enhancing India-Guyana cooperation in sectors including oil and gas, healthcare, training and capacity building was held.
On the meeting with the President of Suriname, the official statement reads, “President Droupadi Murmu met President Chandrikapersad Santokhi of Suriname in Indore on the sidelines of 17th PBD Convention. Both leaders discussed ways to further strengthen bilateral relations and advance cooperation in trade, energy, technology and culture.”
